How a car starter works

1.When the ignition switch is closed, the two coil windings (holding coil S-ground and suction coil S-M) are energized. It is worth noting that due to the low resistance of the suction coil, a large current flows through it. This coil is connected in series with the motor circuit, and under the action of current, the motor will slowly rotate to facilitate the engagement of the small gear and flywheel;

2.At the same time, the magnetic field generated in the coil attracts the iron core to push the small gear in and mesh with the flywheel ring gear. At this time, the high load main contact B is short circuited by a short-circuit piece, that is, the short-circuit switch is closed, the main circuit of the starter is connected, and the armature winding is provided with a large starting current by the battery and generates a strong starting torque; Meanwhile, the pull-in coil (S-M) is short circuited due to the same voltage at both ends; Keep the coil (S-ground) continuously adsorbing the iron core at the designated position;

3.Until the ignition switch is turned off, the holding coil (S-ground) and the suction coil (S-M) are powered by the M-terminal. At this time, the magnetic field generated by the suction coil (S-M) is opposite to that of the holding coil (S-ground) when it was just started, and the force of the two magnetic fields causes the iron core to return to its position, and the main contact B is disconnected from M. The circuit of the DC motor is cut off and slows down to a stop.
