When sourcing replacement Yanmar engine starter for marine, agricultural and construction equipment, the two most reliable references are the Yanmar engine model and OEM part number. Many buyers mistakenly match by machine model only, which often results in wrong Yanmar diesel starter.
Select Starter Motor by Yanmar Engine Model & OEM Number
Yanmar LC188FD
The Yanmar LC188FD starter motor is designed specifically for the LC188FD diesel engine. Check the OEM number stamped on the old starter, voltage, pinion gear teeth and mounting dimensions. Even minor differences in flange position will prevent installation.
Yanmar D460FD
The starter for Yanmar D460FD fits this larger diesel engine. It features higher cranking power compared with the LC188FD unit. Do not interchange starters between LC188FD and D460FD, as power, gear teeth and mounting specs are not compatible.
Core Matching Checklist for Yanmar Starters
- Full Yanmar engine model (LC188FD, D460FD etc., more reliable than equipment model)
- OEM Part Number: The best cross-reference to confirm correct replacement Yanmar engine starter
- Voltage: Most Yanmar small diesel starters are 12V; larger units use 24V
- Pinion gear teeth, rotation direction and power rating
- Mounting flange and bolt hole spacing
Important Tip: Two different Yanmar engines may look visually similar, but their starter motors cannot be swapped. Always verify engine model and OEM number together before ordering.
